Papier Mâché means "mashed paper" in French, it has been around since ancient times. Papier Mâché is usually made of paper pieces and pulp, to which textile pieces are sometimes added to make them more solid, the paper pieces and pulp are then assembled by glue, starch or wallpaper paste. When the mixture dries, it becomes very resistant and keeps the shape as it is hardened. Back in 1850's, people would build houses with Papier Mâché. This is a Papier Mâché figure of an Azawakh with meticulous details, made for Spillers Dog Food in the 1930's.
