Designed by Giulio Alfieri, the 2.9-liter engine featured a sophisticated tubular spaceframe chassis that was very strong yet extremely lightweight. While it did not have the greatest horsepower of its day, its handling was superior and could be used to great effect. The Birdcage debuted in the hands of Stirling Moss who employed the vehicle’s light fuel consumption and low weight to win the 1959 Delamare-Deboutteville Cup.
