An Edwardian copper- and silver-plated on nickel meat trolley by Drakes, of typical form with two side handles and a domed cover, on square tapered legs with curved feet and large castors.
This trolley came from the Waldorf Hotel and bears its mark. It is at the deluxe end of the Meat Trolley market.
Made by Drakes of Brewer Street, London in the Edwardian period, the legs are of turned and tapered form, a style which looks back to the Georgian neo-classical period, a time when fine dining was at its apogee.
In the Edwardian period the late 18th century was looked upon with misty-eyed affection. This was a period when people dressed for show, when society portrait painting was a thriving industry, and when fine dining, whether at home or out, was indeed a fine art.
