Mounted with a printing of the Royal Coat of Arms with the British Royal motto "Dieu et Mon Droit" and the motto of the Order of the Garter "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense".
The printing dates 1862 for the London International Exhibition during which many silversmiths participated. For the great occasion, it was expected of them to produce beautiful memorabilia like this to display and/or sell during the fair. The total cost of this International Exhibiton was £458,842\\. Receipts only brought in £459,632 for a £790 profit. Less than the price of this box!
