Salvador Dali is perhaps the most famous and greatest Surrealist artist of all times and in this piece, called **''Gala's Godly Back**,'' 'he depicts a _feminine yet fragile_ woman who hides behind a brightly coloured cloak whilst the symbolic images of mortality and the melting of time, which are recurring themes in the artist's paintings, attempt to ravage her beauty.
Gala, a Russian immigrant and 10 years older than Dali, became his companion, his muse, his wife, his model in numerous art works and his business manager. For him she was everything and was a stabilizing factor in his life and this piece therefore certainly had a strong resonance for Dail.
