The body of circular form with a reeded band to the base and a flared rim with a reeded border. Engraved to the side with a crest and motto "Dulce Periculum" which translates to "Danger is sweet". Turned wooden bases, lined with baize to the underside.Hallmarked for London 1797 by Stephen Adams.Overall the condition is very good with no dents, erasures or repairs. These coasters are of a good size and gauge with well struck and crisp hallmarks. On the whole eighteenth century wine coasters are quite scarce, with early nineteenth century examples typically found. These are a superb example of the elegant examples from the latter part of the eighteenth century.Height: 4 cm or 2 inchesDiameter: 14.5cm or 6 inches
