Antique drop-leaf desks have a timeless beauty, sought-after by people with a taste for classic furniture and for old style handwriting; these writing desks, however, are perfect and comfortable even with an up-to-date computer. Here we are offering a beautiful piece from Napoleon III period made of precious woods. All spaces inside have been realised with great care and attention to details, and are finely inlaid. The high quality of this piece is also highlighted by the refined chiselling of bronze parts (especially of the lock).A plate has been engraved with the following words: 'DIEHL 19.r. Michel-le-Comte PARIS'.Dimensions: 66x48 H 85 cmCharles-Guillaume Diehl worked between 1855 and 1880. He opened several cabinet manufacturing workshop, one of which was located in Paris, at no.19 of rue Michel-le-Comte. He created many different pieces of furniture, with a slight preference for small cabinets and work tables. He displayed his creations at a Paris fair in 1855, at the Industrial Arts Fair in 1861 and at the 1867 Paris Exhibition. He was famous for his unique and lavish style, the use of semi-precious stones, and the richness of the inlays. Source: Ch.
