Large marble sculpture, bas-relief depicting a Greek battle scene, Italy - 20th century

US$900.60

Beautiful marble bas-relief from the late 19th century/early 20th century, depicting the battle of the Thermopylae. The Greek army of about 7,000 soldiers marched north of the Greece to try to stop the advance of the Persians. The sculpture comes from my private collection, inherited from my family. Originally this panel was placed in my garden, like many other sculptures. It was purchased by my father about 50 years ago in an antiques market. It is perfect as a piece of furniture indoors and outdoors, for interior designers and antique dealers. As you can see in the photos, the bas-relief underwent a small restoration, which is barely visible and doesn’t affect the beauty of the sculpture (on 2 legs of the warriors the piece of the legs was reattached). The bas-relief is healthy, intact and in good condition.Important: the bas-relief in this auction does not come from architectural detachments of palaces or monuments. I guarantee full transparency and licit provenance.Dimensions:length 73 cmwidth 43 cmdepth 4 cm.Weight: 22 kg approx.
