This is a fabulous pair of antique watercolours entitled 'The Cardinals' by Enrico Tarenghi, circa 1910. They are skillfully executed in pencil over watercolour. Each depicts a cardinal, against the same background - outside a basilica. Both watercolours are signed E Tarenghi. Enrico Tarenghi produced a number of painting both in watercolour and oil and he is a collectable artist whose painting are selling at major auction houses around the world, such as Bonhams and Chrisitie's. He was born and resident in Rome. He studied in the Academy of St Luke in Rome. Tarenghi's paintings: 'The Return from Work and Prayer by Muslims' were exhibited the first in Turin, in 1880, the latter in Milan, the next year. In Rome, in 1883, he had two canvases: 'Abbey of San Gregorio in Venice and Fulvia'. In 1884 in Turin, he displayed an oil: 'Gelosia', and a watercolour: 'The Mother'. In Livorno 1886, he exhibited 'Meditazione'. Among his other works are: 'The convalescent woman; Oh, potess' io'(from Faust, Act one, first scene); and 'the Temple of Antonio and Faustina', exhibited at Venice, in 1887.
