Expedition Power Catamaran

US$595,000.00

General
This very special custom power CAT was completed in 2007 by the Alwoplast yard in Chile, in the Alwoplast celebrated 20th anniversary.

Alwoplast was founded by German immigrants in the German-speaking town of Valdiva, Chile. Because they are on the roaring 40s, they build really tough boats, with lots of heavy, extra beams and reinforcements. For instance the front of each hull comes to a vertical metal knife edge, angled forward, and reinforced behind with sold glass, designed for Dedalus to hit and ride up over a heavy object in the sea such as a container.

Dedalus’s underwater hull is based on the semi-displacement hull, developed by the New Zealand yacht designer, Malcolm Tennant, but in this case designed by the naval architects, Nautatec SL, whose personnel, among other things, have been involved with America’s Cup syndicates for over twenty years. (See www.nautatec.com.) This hull allows Dedalus, with a strong-build dry displacement weight of 46 tons to cruise at 8 to ten knots at around 0.6 gallons a mile and reach a maximum speed of around 24 knots (although at over two gallons a mile).

Dedalus was designed for blue water cruising. She holds up to 1000 gallons of freshwater and up to 2,800 gallons of fuel. She has many backup systems in case something goes wrong when a local boat shop is not nearby.
