This splendid historic villa, took its actual shape between the end of XVIIIth century and the first half of XIXth century, thanks to architect Francesco Roncioni and to a team of architects who transformed this property from a house, with housing and agricultural functions to one of the best luxury homes in Italy. In this period the exteriors find a new arrangement with fountains, games and water course.
One of the most particular properties for sale in Italy, the main villa is on four levels, one of which is a basement, it has a covered surface of 2.240 m2. Inside, many rooms show - in a good condition of preservation yet - frescos of Pasquale Cioffi and Giovanni Battista Tempesti: every room is a follow one after the other of caves and trompe-l'oeil, with rococo ceilings, in line with the perspective conjuring of the end of XVIIIth century.
The romantic external park - planned by Antonio della Gherardesca - has a surface of 6 hectares, in a course with natural elements, like water games, secular trees, bushes and artificial elements: still now are part of the park: a chapel in neo-Gothic style, decorated with pieces of XIVth coming from the church of Saint Francis in Pisa, two small temples, a cave with a barrel vault decorated with semiprecious stones, mother-of-pearls and shells, a guardian's house and a little unfinished castle.
Very interesting is the building of the Bigattiera, it was planned by Antonio della Gherardesca in XIXth century for hosting a silkworms breeding. This splendid neo-Gothic building of 680 m2, with the ancient Casa Marianna, a building of 1500 m2 used to host the workers, testify the entrepreneurial talent of Francesco Roncioni.
This villa was the background of the love between Ugo Foscolo and Isabella Roncioni, immortalized by the poet in Teresa in the Last Letters of Jacopo Ortis which adds a tough of intimacy to this real estate in Tuscany.
