“Realize that everything connects to everything else.” - LEONARDO DA VINCI Once the home of the Renaissance master, Leonardo da Vinci, this historic oceanfront Tuscan villa overlooks the Mediterranean Sea from a clifftop above the port town of Livorno, Italy, the maritime gateway to Tuscany and home of the first seaside resorts developed in Europe in the 19th century. Working in Livorno as a military engineer in 1502, da Vinci engineered the great walls that still surround the terraced gardens of the four-story, five-bedroom estate. A year later, da Vinci began painting his world masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, which he completed in 1506. Originally built in the mid-1400s as part of a larger complex designed to defend the city, the prestigious fortress and then residence was renovated under the direction of Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister, Elisa, in the early 1800s. The villa’s 773 square meters include a living room, dining area, kitchen, five ensuite bedrooms, and splendid terraces on two levels, all of which command spectacular views of the Mediterranean.
