The Silver Cloud and its Bentley variant are commonly recognised as one of the most beautiful designs to come from Rolls Royce, being probably the last design to follow the evolution of the true Rolls Royce marques.

This vehicle is a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II adaptation to a fully operational Four-Door Convertible.

It is based on a Standard Steel vehicle built in 1961, Chassis number SXC 477, engine no. P3240-603CS. It has the original 6.25 litre V8 engine which has been totally rebuilt. The original refurbished chassis and body remain.

This vehicle is believed to be unique in that no 4-Door Silver Cloud Convertibles were originally made on the standard chassis. It is understood that in total six 4-Door models were made, all of which were coach-built cars from H.J. Mulliner/Park Ward and based on the long wheelbase chassis.

Many attempts have been made to reproduce a 4-Door version but this PKW 4-Door D.H.C. has been made in the impressive style and unique operation of the original coach-built models and all fittings are made as close as possible to the original designs. The windows are all electrically operated and the hood is hydraulically operated.

In 1996 Peter K Wilford, (PKW) know for his adaptation of the Silver Cloud series into 2-Door models complementary with the Mulliner/Park Ward designs, produced a design for a 4-door Convertible which utilises the Standard Steel body and standard wheelbase chassis. This concept would incorporate purpose made window frames throughout with the rear combined drop-glass/quarter light retracting into the rear door skin describing a 90 degree arc, similar to the original coach-built cars from the 1960's It is understood that no-one has successfully reproduced this design on a Standard Steel body, hence the car is totally unique. In line with his attention to detail and commitment to the original designs of the time, the hood latches, sun visors, interior lights and switches are all taken from the period designs.

957 BXF, the 1961 Silver Cloud II was purchased by the previous owner in 2011 as a project vehicle. The owner was introduced by the vendor to Peter Wilford whereupon it was agreed to produce the first PKW 4-Door D.H.C. to this specification. It was necessary to carry out substantial modifications to the body; Additional strengthening was applied to the 'A' & 'B' posts with particular attention to the windscreen pillars and surround. All but one of the chassis mounts fitted are solid, in line with practice on the period Continental models. The original body has been used with the addition of a small extension to the front doors to close the gap created by the removal of the 'B' post infill giving a smoother line.

Concurrently Peter Wilford designed and manufactured the window frames, window actuators (based upon the motor drives from the Silver Spirit range), hood frames, hood actuation mechanisms, hood latches, sun visors and various minor components necessary due to the intricacies of this design. The hydraulically operated hood mechanism utilises a modern hydraulic power pack with interlocks for the interior lighting and operation.

The restored body and chassis were then returned to him in the U.K. where the further modified body was fitted with the hood mechanisms and windows. Returning to the owner's workshop in Spain, the vehicle's assembly was completed and the body painted in Rolls-Royce colour Champagne Yellow.

Returning to the U.K. in May 2016 where final commissioning was carried out, the car was exhibited at the RREC Annual Rally at Burghley House in June 2016.
