This original, headlights behind the grille Land Rover, warmly referred to as "Bessie" by its previous owner was built 3rd April 1950 and was supplied to Rice Brothers Ltd in Horsham, Sussex. The previous owner said Bessie was used on a fruit farm and spent most of her life on this private estate, probably the reason she is in such good condition.

Mr. Harris, of Cleobury Mortimer, bought the car in December 1983, he rebuilt her and said that the vehicle was in very good condition with no welding being needed to the chassis, which is unusual. He then used her around Shropshire until 1996 when the car was traded in at Shuker Land Rover in Ludlow, Bessie then spent her time either on showroom display or being taken to shows.

The previous owners purchased the car in 2011 and decided in 2016 that she needed to be repainted, during this time it was decided to have her stripped down and the chassis repainted.

The chassis was indeed in superb condition, had never been welded and all the body panels are original and un-welded. Even the front wings, which have usually been welded up when modern indicators have been fitted on the wings. Its chassis, bulkhead and wheels were blasted, primed and painted. Axles were stripped and rebuilt with new seals, wheel cylinders and brake shoes. Bessie's engine and gearbox were examined and in very good condition, new seals were fitted and only cosmetic work was undertaken; repainting the block in the original factory colour. All finishes were replicated exactly, from fasteners, hinges and catches down to the correct rivets to fasten the trims. Finally, the windscreen and windows were all replaced. All of this work was documented with photographs which we have on file.

All in all this very original vehicle is in stunning condition, both cosmetically and mechanically. The car could easily described as near Concours condition, due to its originality with the high mounted semaphore indicators, trailer light plug and even the wooden jack handles.

Also accompanying the vehicle is a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate.

This stunning car is available to be bought as a pair with a delivery mileage Land Rover Defender 90 Autobiography, a unique opportunity to own one of the first Land Rovers and one of the very last collectors edition Defenders!
