Ahrens-Fox - NS2 - 1927

US$58,641.20

Ahrens-Fox NS2 fire engine, a Rotterdam icon. The fire engine offered here is American made. However, it has done service in Rotterdam and was known as one of the water cannons. In 1927, Rotterdam purchased seven of these cars that were finished in the Netherlands. The quality of the car was so good that the last one was taken out of service in 1972. Not because they were worn out, but because they no longer conformed to the regulations of the fire department. Of the seven cars purchased, still 6 remain. These are in museums in the Netherlands. Including e.g. the Louwman museum and the Nationaal Brandweer Museum. This Rotterdam Ahrens-Fox is the only privately owned. The car is in nice condition and is driveable. These Ahrens-Fox fire engines have been used in the fight against the fires after the bombardment of Rotterdam in May 1940. During the action, an Ahrens-Fox was lost when a bomb hit and two cars, including this one, were damaged by gunfire. The driver of one of the vehicles was killed. The sound the car makes is very characteristic. During a drive through the streets of London (London Brighton) the sound of the engine caused some car alarms to go off. The Ahrens-Fox has a very strong look and leaves a deep impression on spectators due to its appearance and elegance. American fire departments of for example Detroit and Baltimore have an Ahrens-Fox as a showpiece in their parades. This car can be viewed and picked up in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands.
