No one likes to be told what to do, especially when it means restrictions on fun. But in 1975 that is what faced the muscle car, including its leader, the Corvette. Strict new regulations on fuel economy, emissions and safety meant sadness for anyone with octane in their veins. Every car manufacturer faced the same styling and performance challenges to offer the public, the folks over at Corvette took matters in the own hands and offered what really was a unique fun last of breed 'Vette. The very last time Chevrolet said Corvette would produce a convertible. Only one displacement choice was offered being the 350 CID, ZQ3 with 165 hp or L82 with 205 hp and this one being the latter with a fresh and reactive feel. Both engines had the same255 lb-ft. The 3 speed Turbo-Hydromatic transmission shifts the way it should. The introduction of mandatory catalytic converters and speed regulators became the standard in 1975. Even with the dismal horsepower rating the Corvette department at GM really achieved the unthinkable with 0-60 still being had at a very healthy run in the high 7.0 seconds. Styling was never at risk and this Dark Red Metallic proves just that. Its glistening long sexy curves, low stance and meaty 245/60/15 tires not just hugging the road but appearing to be part of it has all the confidence and appeal that comes with the Stingray. Only 53,142 original miles on this numbers matching well cared for beauty, with a restored interior and new white convertible manual top that goes up and down correctly. Style additions for this year changed the nose to a one piece front. All in all at a time when the car industry was being told what to do Corvette was Car and Driver Magazine's choice for "Best all around car". Chevrolet pulled it off in 1975 with a superb road car, stunning styling and enjoyable spirited driving. Yours to be had in this 1975 Corvette even if you just want to show or make it your back road cruiser, but don't let me tell you what to do.
