1961 BENTLEY S2 CONTINENTAL FLYING SPUR BY H. J. MULLINER

US$229,900.00

When the Bentley S2 was unveiled at the 1959 London Motor Show it was a sensation. The Bentley flagship model now boasted a 6.2 Litre V8 engine with power steering and a fully automatic transmission that now came as standard equipment. The S2 Continental chassis took performance a step further with better braking, higher gearing for freeway cruising, and increasing the power output to 200hp, resulting in a car that could be propelled upwards of 110mph. Rolls-Royce and Bentley initially envisioned the Continental exclusively as a two-door car but the decision was taken to sanction the production of a four-door variation. The task was taken on by English coachbuilder H. J. Mulliner & Company. The final design by George Moseley was designated 7443 and kept the name of Mulliner's four-door S1 variant; the Flying Spur. Bentley's S2 Continental Flying Spur was a four-door sport saloon with sculpted rear fenders and closer, more attractive coupled lines. The result offered Continental level performance with four-door practicality, a spacious interior and generous sized boot, keeping the S2 Continental in Bentley's tradition of "the silent sports car." As such, the Mulliner-built Flying Spur S2 Continentals were among the most luxurious, stylish, and desirable of all the Bentley variants. This example has been beautifully restored and is finished in Sage over Brewster Green with a gorgeous light tan leather interior and burl walnut woodwork. It is one of 76 constructed with right-hand drive out of a total of 128 "Flying Spur" bodied Continentals. It is fitted with its original 6.2 litre V8 engine and comes with rare rear air conditioning and power windows. Accompanying this investment-grade Bentley S2 is its original tool kit, jack and air pump. We are proud to offer what we believe to be one of the very best Flying Spurs to the most particular collector or enthusiast who demands the best.
