This chassis was based on that the four-cylinder S4D model, which has good independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. This chassis remained in production in France until 1952, so spare parts (for the chassis) are readily available. The first car was fitted with a typically 'English' trials body, Bendix cable brakes, and standard Salmson wheels, which were changed to hydraulic brakes and Jordan center -lock steel wheels; Bodies were supplied by London-based coachbuilder Whittingham & Mitchel. Eight of these six-cylinders British Salmsons survive, an exceptional percentage rate for any pre-war car.
This car offered here, chassis number '110', appeared at the 1938 London Motor Show. Compared to the two other similar cars, the front wings are 'fuller' and it has attractive flairs under the doors. These cars are extremely expensive at £ 650 compared to an SS 100 at around £ 350.
Chassis number '110' was retained by the factory until 1947 when it was sold. The first owner, EA Yates, passed it on in 1958 to Guy Broad, the well-known XK Jaguar The previous part of the Cars (their logo is still on the dashboard). Bob Chelley, who dismantled the engine and stored the parts in less than ideal conditions. owner purchased the car, which was in a semi-dismantled state, and rebuilt it.
The brakes were overhauled, and the hydraulic cylinders have since since checked, and gearbox and rear axle were checked and various bearings replaced. Additionally, an electric oil pump is fitted to allow pressure to build up before starting. A modern pre-engaged starter is fitted also.
There is a photographic record of the work on file. The original body panels were removed, and the wooden body frame renewed as required, following which the interior was reupholstered in black leather, and new carpets fitted. , and the car also comes with a UK V5 registration document and its original buff logbook.

It has also had an occasional outing in French regularity hill climbs!
