In 1949, Charles and Ray Eames developed ESU as a system of free-standing shelves. Together with the Eames Office and the Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, a carefully defined new colour composition was chosen to give ESU a fresh and contemporary look and still celebrate the spirit of the 1940s and the 1950s. The second feature of the new ESU is the adjustment of the horizontal dimensions and the expansion of the variants that turns ESU into a veritable family of shelves: ESU Shelf was widened and the individual shelves enlarged. Dimensions: Height: 148cm x Width: 179.5cm x Depth: 42cm. Materials & finishes: Shelves in birch plywood with birch face veneer, clear lacquered. Sliding doors in lacquered moulded plywood. Screens in MDF with coloured lacquer. Metal surfaces are black powder-coated. Feet can be levelled individually.
