Valet Chair by Hans Wegner
Valet Chair by Hans Wegner
US$13,900.00
What is the most practical way to fold one's clothes at bedtime? A spirited 1951 conversation on the topic led Hans Wegner (1914-2007) to the concept for this now-iconic form. It nearly remained a one-off, with four legs-until Danish King Frederik IX saw an early prototype and ordered one. Wegner worked on the design for two more years, finally presenting the king with a three-legged version made of pine with a teak seat. (The monarch was so pleased with it that he promptly ordered nine more.) This vintage Valet chair has an oak frame, teak seat, and original brass hardware, all burnished to a rich patina. The back doubles as a hanger, while the hinged seat can be placed in an upright position to keep trousers neatly folded. The triangular box beneath the seat can keep small items such as a wallet or keys close at hand and concealed from view.
