For those who cannot read music, a partition is an abstract page, cabalistic signs with black and white graphs on a set of 5 lines; it is a sign/form ensemble. We tried to make a hazardous comparison between sign/ music language and sign/form language: For those who can read a score, it is a sign/music ensemble. He hears music, he listens, one who can read an equation can see a shape... a catenoid, an oloid, a Möbius ribbon or a hyperboloid... It was a starting point. The purity and precision of algebraic surfaces,even the most complex, inspired this double collection of furniture. The birch plywood,wood used for pianos belts, is the only material used. The «surface» family in brick red lacquer employs a «flat» ribbon like deformation of the material. The «volume» family in natural varnished wood shows the stratification of the material that deforms as fine contour lines.
