The Super Frelon manufactured by Sud-Aviation made its first flight in 1962 and its last in 2010\\. Length of 23 m, it has a wingspan of 19 m for a maximum speed of 250 km / h. The only three-turbines and the biggest helicopter ever developed in Europe, Super Frelon has been used for anti-submarine combat, operational transport and sea rescue during the past four decades. Since 1966, the French Super Frelon , Delivered to 29 vessels to the French Navy, carried out 135,000 flying hours, including 4,000 for sea rescue. During these rescue missions at sea, mainly off Brittany, they rescued 2,150 people.
