A self-taught designer with a notably offbeat approach to the practice, Tom Dixon came to design thirty years ago when his innate desire to repair his broken motorcycle led serendipitously to his discovery of the joys of welding. In the 1980s, Dixon lent his newly realized talents to Italian manufacturing giant Cappellini where he rose to prominence by creating unusual and whimsical furniture, including his iconic S Chair, a work in MoMA's collection. Curvaceous lines and a lustrous finish distinguish this unconventional tea set. Each piece is made from spun brass, polished and then dipped in a warm gold wash to give it a soft matte surface.
