"If you work with a material long enough, it will tell you the form it should take," according to designer Michaël Verheyden, who made a cylinder of alabaster the softly glowing star of this table lamp. Made in his Genk, Belgium-based studio, the creamy, naturally marbled volume sits atop a circular base of black oak and has a certain serenity. "I hope that people are slowing down when they are using my designs," Verheyden has said. Modulate the brightness by removing the top disc or setting it askew.
