Super Nikka is largely unknown in the Western market, but has a great historical value. The bottle is made of porcelain, with a hand painted old map of the Ryukyu Islands, now known as Okinawa. From 1961 to late 1999, Nikka had a subsidiary in Naha, capital of Okinawa, located in the Archipelago. At the time, Okinawa was under the administration of the US government, which had numerous military bases on the islands, and the soldiers were thirsty for whisky.

The bottles produced during 1961 to 1999 have a different flavor to the current Super Nikka, according to experts; the flavor is more American, making it an interesting whisky for collectors.
