The first known written mention of Scotch whisky comes from 1495, when King James IV gave “eight bolls of malt” to a chap called Friar John “to make aqua vitae”. Now, if he’d decided to mothball his still and had set to work right then and there with a rotovap, working day and night without taking holiday right up until 2016, do you know how much spirit he would have produced in total? About as much as Girvan produces in a single day!
Tasting notes:
Nose: Pecan pie, double cream and a generous helping of toffee chunks. Sizeable oak influence.
Palate: Full-bodied notes of cinnamon, caramel, chocolate croissants and cedar.
Finish: Fruit notes appear on the finish - think cantaloupe and quince.
