The art of Piet Mondrian was transformed by his development of an artistic theory he termed Neoplasticism, based on a spiritual principle of universal harmony. From 1920 until his death in 1944, he made paintings with purely abstract compositions that expressed a dynamic balance through black grid lines and blocks of primary colors on white and grey grounds.
