April 22 1935, marked the opening race of the Grand Prix season in Monaco. Mercedes-Benz entered three cars driven by Rudolf Caracciola, Manfred von Brauchitsch, and Luigi Fagioli. The competition was stiff with many talented drivers and ambitious teams such Maserati, Bugatti, and Alfa Romeo.
