A large early 20th century crocodile Jewellery Box of rectangular form,.
The hinged lid centred by flush brass-sunk carrying handle, initialled 'C.A.R.', opening to reveal an aubergine-coloured silk and leather interior with three compartmented lift-out trays, each with different sections for a variety of jewellery items, with a compartmented open space below, with a 'Chubb's patent' lock, engraved 108 Queen Victoria Street' and numbered 11087011, the front with a brass key escutcheon, with an aubergine leather base.
This large high quality Jewellery Box would have been made for a lady of considerable means. Not only would the box have been luxurious, but it is designed to accommodate a relatively large amount of jewellery, which would have been taken by the lady on her travels.
