* This is a beautifully preserved tortoise fossil of _Stylemys nebracensis_. It slowly plodded over the temperate area of South Dakota about 30 million years ago in an area known as the White River Badlands of South Dakota. Today the badlands are a series of highly eroded hills and gullies of light colored sedimentary layers. _Stylemys_ was the first species of fossil tortoise to be discovered and described in North America.
* Dimensions: 5.25 inches, 13 cm (length) x 5 inches, 12.7cm (width) x 2 inches, 5 cm (height), weight = 1.06 lb. or 642 grams. It is an old collection piece with minimal restoration - less than five percent. It also has a fossilized leg bone (humerus). Comes with a custom made wood and brass stand.
