This small schooling fish, _Knightia_, was an important food source in the freshwater lakes that dotted Wyoming 50 million years ago in the Eocene. Occasionally fossils have been found with _Knightia _trapped in the jaws or stomach of larger predatory fish like the _Diplomystus_ or_Mioplosus_.
In the green river formation, plates with schools of _Knightia_ have been found. It is classified in the Clupeidae family which includes present day herrings
Note: Representative item. Size, appearance and quality are very similar in all specimens. Approximate Dimensions: Length of fish = 2 to 2.5 inches, Thickness = 0.25 inches, Matrix = 2.5 - 3.5 inches. Weight = 50 grams,
