Year: 1900's

British Bulldog artifacts were made in Victorian England as symbols of the resolute dogged British spirit which helped to transform England from a country at the fringes of Europe in the 17th century to a world superpower by the mid 19th century.
They were made in either boxwood or fruitwood and partially stained in black, with glass eyes, the facial features realistically carved. They survive in relatively small numbers and it is unfortunate that documentation does not exist to confirm the precise makers of these most typical of Victorian artifacts.
