Rounded corners and arched top and base, containing a black-and-white photograph of Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth) by Dorothy Wilding taken in 1952, the base of the back of the frame with Arabic script, otherwise unmarked.
Dorothy Wilding (1893 - 1976) was a noted English society photographer who wanted to become an actress or artist, but this career was disallowed by her uncle, in whose family she lived, so she chose the art of photography, which she started to learn from the age of sixteen. By 1929 she had already moved studio several times, and in her Bond Street studio she attracted theatre stars and shot her first British Royal Family portrait of Prince George, later Duke of Kent. When Princess Elizabeth became Queen in 1952, she sat for Wilding in a famous portrait which was used for a series of postage stamps of Great Britain between 1952 & 1967.
