A pair of 1930's Art Deco shagreen and ivory photograph frames, the inner and outer edges in ivory contrasting with the bright green shagreen, with mahogany linings and back, the tops with silver monograms below Coronets, the metal stands with retailers' mark for 'Goldsmiths & Silversmiths company Ltd, 112 Regent St W'.
The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths company Ltd was established in 1880 and was located at 112 Regent Street on the corner of Glasshouse Street, in the heart of London's shopping district. In 1952 they amalgamated with Garrard & Co Ltd, the crown jewellers, a title which was bestowed on the company by Queen Victoria in 1843.
Shagreen is a type of rawhide consisting of untanned animal skin, commonly from sharks or rayfish, which is dyed with a green vegetable dye.
