An early 20th century silver plated Golfing Desk Timepiece, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals flanked by thistle engraved sides, surmounted by a golfer in full swing about to hit his ball, the oval base with crossed clubs modelled on 19th century clubs, all resting on cross-hatched spherical balls.

This elegant Desk Clock was made in the days when Harry Vardon was one of the leading golfers, and it is entirely possible that the figure on our clock is modelled in his likeness, with his cap, moustache and plus fours. Vardon won the Open Championship a record six times between 1896 and 1914, and also won the US Open in 1900.
