**The artist: Marc de Fortescu**

Marc discovered photography at his school photo club. It was there that he notably learnt diverse masking techniques during the printing of silver film proof sheets. This most probably influenced his perception of images as although he did not head towards the profession of photographer, he studied at the School of the Image, in Gobelins, Paris and became a photo-engraver, specialised in retouching. He feels the same thing when retouching and manipulating images, as when welding where he salvages old shapes to create new ones. With the status of a freelance retoucher, he embellishes, transforms and distorts reality, sometimes creating a new one from it.
