Ocean-like waves 3 meters high exploded all around me during a ferocious windstorm that nearly cost me all of my camera gear to make this image.Such windstorms, often of hurricane strength, are common in Patagonian Chile and make for extremely exciting yet very difficult subject to shoot.The dramatic lighting added to the intensity of the moment.

Alastair Magnaldo first encountered photography when he was ten years old, captivated by illuminated black and white prints. This luminous vision of photography has stayed with him. He tries to capture this light in his compositions. Colour is used for the unique purpose of adding atmosphere. Alastair Magnaldo is a scientist by training and remains attached to an experimental and creative approach. He decided to perfect his technique in order to free himself from technical constraints. Some of his photographs are photomontage, but others not and the viewer cannot be certain. What the photographer calls ‘digital prints’ result from this approach.
