Woven with a couple nestled in a rocky outcrop, the young man with his arm around a young woman whilst showing her a bird, an empty birdcage next to him, all in a landscape setting. In a narrow four sided frame pattern scroll border.Back lined with white cloth - upper part of lining with small rings to slide a metal support.Dimensions: 118 x 138 cm.The set of six tapestries known as Les Beaux Pastorales or sometimes La Noble Pastorale was first woven in 1755 under the directorship of André-Charlemagne Charron, panels from the set were repeated on many occasions between 177-1778, several intermittent orders being from the King. The six panels were entitles as follows, La Fontaine d'Amour, Le Joueur de Flûte, Le Pècheur, La Pipée aux Oiseaux, Le Déjeuner and La Bergère. The tapestry offered here is a reduced version of La Pipée aux Oiseaux.Provenance: Acquired by the present owner from an Italian antiques dealer in Caracas Venzuela. Original invoice present.
