This is a beautiful maple, mahogany and rosewood inlaid chest. It has three useful full width drawers and features inlaid marquetry decoration of urns, ribbons, garlands and flower. It is further embellished with decorative ormolu mounts and handles and has an elegant brass gallery around the top. The craftsmanship throughout the piece is thoroughly impressive. The Brazilian species of Rosewood was by far the most beautifully figured and therefore it became the most sought after and rare. This was the wood of choice for the great box makers, David and Thomas Edwards who used it to veneer some of their finest pieces.
