Russian icon of St John the Baptist - early 1800'sWith scenes of his lifeSize is 32 x 27cm - larger than usual. The icon has a kovcheck brim and sponki - to prevent warping - in the high and low end. This indicates an age in the early 1800's.This Russian icon shows St John with wings as the Messenger preceding Christ. He holds a page of the Gospel and a Chalice with his head. To the left there is the scene of his execution and to the right a throng of believers baptized by him.Condition is fair - it does though have some paint loss and a few little restored patches- but no restoration in important details. Notably a few letters in the text were redone and some paint loss in the lower right hand corner and at the halo of the protagonist was filled.
