Reliquary pendant (in German: Reliquienkapsel) intended for private devotion. Oval-shaped item made of gilded and engraved copper.There are two opposite lids to protect the relics of the saints that were inside it. In the centre of these lids there are shiny engraved decorations.The item is decorated with the nomen sacrum IHS surmounted by the cross and surrounded by sun rays, together with the sacred heart of Jesus and three nails of the Passion. The whole is enclosed by winged flying cherubs. This monogram is also the symbol of the order of the Society of Jesus.On the other lid there are engraved racemes, carnation flowers (symbol of the blood of the Passion), two masks and a central shield.This reliquary has a ring at the top to hang or wear it.An item like this was sold as a wax seal holder at the auction house Finarte in Milan, lot 124, auction 1360 of 14 December 2006.Origin: from the collection of the artist and antiquarian Attilio Simonetti (Rome, 1843-1935), Rome.Dimensions: cm 8.5 x 5 x 2.3 cm.
