Mahogany tea table – England or the Netherlands - circa 1740/1760

US$613.00

An 18th century tea table made of oak and mahogany and glued with mahogany veneer, about 1740-1760. The tea table is most likely manufactured in England during the George II period. It could also be made in the Netherlands during the Louis XV period (also called Rococo-period) when this English style was very much in vogue here as well! The top is solid mahogany that has been deepened, giving a raised edge with light recessed and rounded corners. The with mahogany veneer glued frame is sloping and very elegantly designed. On either side are two dovetailed drawers, with a solid mahogany lid that can slide. This "feature" is similar to the pull-out sheets at a buffet, as to create more space to place items. Both drawers still have their original cast brass handles decorated with flower- & leaf motifs and C-shaped curls. The tea table rests on the typical elegant Queen Anne legs. The furniture has some old but not disturbing restorations around. It has a beautiful fair look and patina, a warm orange-brown colour, and a beautiful satin gloss from the authentic wax finish!Dimensions: Height: 74 cm, width: 86 cm, depth: 51 cm.
