The strong forms of South African traditional ceramics are the main inspiration behind the Gold Leaf and Spikes. The ceramic is made of terracotta clay, formed with an age coiling technique. The clay might be subject to various techniques and experimentations using casting or hand-thrown methods of production, always inspired by the traditional African way. The beauty of hand-building leads to a stunning piece which blurred boundaries between traditional African art and contemporary ceramic.

MICHELLE LEGG is a ceramic artist based in South Africa, graduated in 2007 at the University of Johannesburg. He is teaching studio ceramic from The Pottery Studio in Bryanston, South Africa. Michelle Legg has exhibited extensively and has worked in collections in Denmark and the USA. In 2012, he was honored as a Fellow of Ceramics Southern Africa. He is passionate about age old coiling techniques using mainly Terracotta clay and always based his ceramic design on traditional African shape, creating unexpected and stunning piece of art.
