Bronze sculpture, nice dark patina, representing the Neapolitan dancer of Francisque Joseph Duret. It stands on a small circular base, sprinkled with shells. Intaglio signature on the base: F. Duret et Delafontaine. Delafontaine foundry circa 1850-1860.This reduction of the artwork exhibited in the Louvre, success of the salon of 1833 where it created sensation, evokes ancient bronzes representing young dancing faunas. Its picturesque subject and technique, cast in lost wax, the shorts, the cap or the medal are all elements that give a realistic flavor to this dancer who is performing a traditional dance, renowned for healing tarantula bites.
