Artist Biography:
Edward Feline, the son of a tailor, Peter ‘Fellen’ of St. Martin’s in the Fields, was apprenticed to Augustine Courtauld in 1709 and became a freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company in 1721. He married Renee Barbut in the Huguenot church in West Street in 1720. It would seem that he was dead by 1753 when his widow entered her first mark. James Rothwell and James Lomax (Country House Silver from Dunham Massey, 2006, p. 163) describe his output as consisting of “good quality but plain wares” for example the oatmeal plate, basin and deep bowls supplied to George Booth, Earl of Warrington.
