“The handover of the Regency.” Carved ivory triptych representing Henry IV of France and his wife Marie de’ Medici - France, 19th century; taken from the “Marie de’ Medici cycle” by Peter Paul Rubens. At the end of 1621 Rubens was commissioned by Marie de’ Medici, widow of Henry IV, to paint a series of 24 paintings for the Luxembourg Palace, with an allegorical/encomiastic cycle, illustrating the life and the political ideology of the client. The paintings, finished by Rubens in 1622, are currently in the Louvre in Paris. The outer surface of the two flaps has four fleur-de-lis of the French coat of arms and some lines like hair. The seller guarantees that the triptych is intact and in good condition in the carved part, except for a small corner on the top right, which has no glued parts but shows a subtle crack, that doesn’t affect the magnificence of the item.Dimensions: 16.6 x 26.1 x 1.5 cm; weight: 340 g.
