Beautiful bronze figure pendulum, France, ca. 1870, with a figure depicting Cleopatra holding a snake while she is reading a book with stars, garlands around a Louis XVI head, base of white marble with stylised scrolls and a pearl rim, see the photos.In old Egypt - Cleopatra's country - the snake and the book of stars are symbols of self-knowledge and wisdom, indicating that there can be no wisdom without self-knowledge.The clock has a white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, gold-plated open hands with decorations, a mechanical movement with driving gear and striking movement - striking a bell every hour and half hour - on the back it says 'Medaille d'Honneur' and the year, 1855.The front and back have a glass door set in bronze, including pendulum and winding key.
