According to Greek mythology, Leda, the wife of the Spartan king Tyndareüs was coveted by Zeus (Jupiter). She was famous for her beauty. One day Zeus noticed her from mount Olympus. He tried to court her, but she turned him down. Later he visited her in the shape of a swan to be able to approach and seduce her, and made love to her. It is unclear if she was raped brutally or if she was open to his charms. Ashamed about what happened, Leda made love to her husband the same night and nine month later, she gave birth to two eggs, which hatched two twins: the so-called Dioscuri, Castor and Pllux and the girls Helena of Troy and Clytaemnestra. The latter two are the archetype of the femme fatale, they both married a king. Clytaemnestra married Agamemnon of Mycene and Helena married the king of Sparta, his brother Menelaos. The brief mating between Leda and Zeus had disastrous results for the course of history.
