Table regulator with astronomical and year calendar, signed Maux Lacroix à Montpellier, circa 1870.
Typical French movement of superior quality and finish from an ébauche by Marti & Cie, with half-rollers self-adjusting deadbeat escapement, and steel suspension (both Achille Brocot patents). Rack strike on a silvered bell situated at the rear. Single steel rod pendulum with two quicksilver jars acting as the thermal compensation for a good working precision. Extra calendar work situated in front of the motion work, made by Barrard & Samp; Vignon, Ft d'Horlogerie, Rue Commines, 7, Paris. Autonomy 3 weeks.
Enamel dial made of three separate parts, the outer ring with minutes, hours with Roman numerals and month calendar with its 31 days. The centre dial with the days of the week on the left, and the 12 months of the year on the right. The lower dial indicates the phases of the moon. All hands made of blued steel, except the calendar hand in gilt brass. The two main hands in _Breguet_ style. The bezel and the medium ring in turned and gilt brass. The very fine signature of the clockmaker « Maux Lacroix à Montpellier » under the number 31.
Four-glass 'cage' gilt bronze case with bevelled glasses allowing for a good view of the movement and all its working parts, with a front and rear door for easy access.
