Antique Sterling Silver Mug 1885 Langford & Sons

US$1,004.21

This is a wonderful antique English sterling silver mug with hallmarks for 1885 and the maker's mark of Langford and Sons in Bristol. The mug has a stamp of the Bristol Goldsmiths' Alliance. The company was founded in 1882 with the merger of Charles Taylor and Co and William Langford and Sons, both of which had been established in the early years of the century. The Alliance manufactured and sold articles made of gold, silver, gems and metals that lend themselves to artistic handiwork. Their premises on College Green were described as having 'three magnificently yet tastefully dressed windows and a spacious showroom' and Mr George Langford as 'the talented managing partner'. Clocks were regulated by electricity to Greenwich mean time. It is beautifully made in sterling silver and there is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector.
